Tates Gallery is located in downtown New Boston, New Hampshire.
James Cook, goldsmith and jewelry designer, has been in the industry for over 18 years, working for his father's jewelry gallery for 16 of those years. Deciding to open his own shop was a big crossroad in James' life, mostly because when his father's shop closed, James wanted very much to be in business for himself, and always dreamed of having his own gallery. His duties entail jewelry design and repairs, as well as working with New England artists to bring a unique collection of items ranging from blown glass and hand-made jewelry, hand-knit woolens and decorative glass, to kids games and books. Sarah graduated from Champlain College in 1993 with an Associates degree as an Executive Administrative Assistance. Sarah and James work together running the store, as well as working behind the scenes in the office, keeping track of orders, artists' inventory and other necessities.
Settling on a location was easier than starting the business itself. In 1997, when James first met his wife, Sarah, they would drive around and think about where they would like to buy a home and raise their children when they were married. New Boston is exactly what they were looking for. Both of them agreed that the quaint atmosphere and tight-knit community was the perfect place to raise their children. James and Sarah have now been married since 1999.
New Boston, they both agreed, was also centrally located to where both James and Sarah grew up, and when deciding on a business location, they unanimously agreed that there was no better place to open a business than right here. As James stated, "What better place to open a business than in a community you feel safe enough to raise your children?"
