Framed Prints

 

Matthew Smith has had his share of gallery shows in Rhode Island, on Cape Cod, and in New Hampshire, and he is a regular at the league of New Hampshire Craftsmen's Fair in Sunapee. But beyond Sunapee and the Pawtuckaway Arts Festival each fall, Matthew doesn't much venture onto the weekend art show circuit. As a result, he is relatively familiar to the small group of gallery owners and shop managers he sees on a regular basis and relatively unknown to people who collect his work.

There are many different qualities to Matthew's work that might catch one's eye, and Matthew enjoys the fact that his prints have no single "look" but rather, fall into four or five distinctive groups of work. Those who know the New Hampshire print scene -- or have visited one or two galleries that carry Matthew's work -- can spot a whale under a starry sky or a brightly colored fish and know that either piece was made by Matthew Smith.
